count down
MaryRyan is patiently awaiting the days until santa arrives. there are only a few presents under the christmas tree but she asks every morning if it's time yet. and from the boxes and boxes of gifts for her that continue to arrive i can only imagine her reaction on christmas morning. i can't wait!
we spent the weekend getting ready and christmas partying. we are so lucky to have such great friends out here!

hair
MaryRyan got her second haircut on Saturday. All of a sudden it's growing like a weed. 'We' (meaning me) are growing her bangs out. I've been getting some slack b/c for a few weeks she's been blinded b/c it's been in her eyes but I think we are over the hump. And she now enjoys (gives in to) wearing bows. The price of beauty!

nana, papa and santa!!
nana and papa came out for a visit last weekend. it was so fun to have them out around the holidays. they helped us put up and decorate or christmas tree and they also went with us when we took maryryan to see santa!! this was her first visit to santa. she was a little unsure about the whole deal at first so we didn't think we would make it to his lap. but after seeing that santa was giving all the boys and girls STICKERS!!! she decided she wanted to get in line. she was soooo cute waiting in line. i really thought she was going to go for it. but as soon as santa reached for her she flipped..hence the picture. she did give santa a high five after he put her down and gave her stickers so i think it was worth it for her.
thanks again for coming to visit. maryryan loves her nana and papa!!

she's a natural!
i'm glad someone in the family enjoys changing diapers. this would be great if she could master this skill in time for the arrival of her little sister or brother.
Here is the blurb from her school's blog today describing the pictures:
Mary Ryan worked really hard to figure out how the diaper worked. She aligned the diaper on the baby doll and then looked for the tabs on the side of the diaper.
Nothing like home-ec class in pre-school!

when the cat's away
MaryRyan and Brian spent the day together today. Brian sent me this picutre. Let's see..everything that wouldn't be going on if I was there:
1. Up on the counter eating..
2. THREE bowls of popcorn and playing with..
3. Wipes?? while wearing..
4. I don't even know where those socks came from
I will admit that she looks like she is having fun. He can do no wrong in her eyes!

making play dough
MaryRyan and her friends made play dough today at school. MR is really into helping us cook these days. Or I should say helping Brian cook. She loves to sit on the counter and watch, stir and do whatever she can to get her hands in it. Hopefully she'll take after Brian in that regard. I tried to cook dinner the other night and we almost had the fire department at our house. Oops. I can make a mean peanut butter and jelly though!

first haircut
finally she gets her first haircut! thank GOD for dora and cookies. she was not into haircut deal at all. but as soon as she saw that she could watch dora while getting her hair done she relaxed and could care less that her hair was getting snipped. they had these cute little stools for them to sit in but she wanted nothing to do with them. maybe she'll be more into it the next time. i wish they had these kids salons when i was a kid!

october what?
can't believe it's october already! sorry i haven't posted in awhile. MR has been battling a nasty stomach bug for the last week so she has been 'home sick' from school. she's been having a blast! looks real sick right? she keeps telling us that her tummy hurts which is flat out heartbreaking coming from a 2 year old!
notice that most of these pics she is holding onto her monkey blanket. she doesn't seem to let that go these days.
she is chit chatting away now. she is also started to call me cath. nice. i was giving her a bath and walked out for a sec and she screamed 'CATH'. and out of instinct i answered. i thought that stage came later..like at 16 or 17 years.

2 year stats
MaryRyan had her 2 year old check up at the doctors on Friday. She is 27 lbs (50th percentile) and 3 ft tall (90th percentile). Huge growth spurt since her 18th month check up.

fresh tomatoes
excerpt from today's school blog:
While playing on the playground, Vanessa brought fresh tomatoes out for the children to explore. Some of the friends were eager to taste them, while some friends just looked and touched them. It was really interesting to watch the friends' facial expressions as they tried tasting the tomatoes. It was a really cool, unexpected learning experience!
I'm going to guess by this picture that MaryRyan did not like the taste of fresh tomatoes.

foamy soap
MaryRyan is happy to be back at school. When I dropped her off on Monday she ran right in and over to her friend Grace, bear hugged her and turned to me and said 'bye mommy'.
Here are some pics of her playing with 'foamy soap'. All the other friends covered themselves from head to toe. I guess she doesn't like to get messy?

Fear? What fear?
We took MaryRyan to the pool and she had a blast. The pool has a slide just for tots MR's size and once MR got the hang of it she could stop going down it. Her first few times down, she flew down and immersed herself right in the water. I thought we would have a traumatized toddler on our hands but she thought it was hilarious and wanted to do it again. Growing up a pool rat myself, I am thrilled she is fearless of the water!
